Greene Acres Community Garden:
Spring is here! We are excited to get 2017 off to a great start!
Our next quarterly meeting will be held at the Broadview Heights City Council Chambers at 12:30pm on April 1, 2017. Please note the 12:30pm start as this is different from past meetings. The agenda for the meeting includes:
- Opening Remarks
- Update from the Board including Treasurer Report and Plot Sales Status
- Introduction of Work Group Leaders
- Season Opening Remarks from Jo Ann Bartsch
- Questions and Comments
We are hoping to have some more seed giveaways for those that attend. Also, this is a great way to get the season off to a good start and better understand what the work groups are trying to accomplish during the season. We need your involvement and engagement for a successful 2017. The meeting is intended to be about 45 minutes in length.
After the meeting, everyone is invited to visit the garden at which time, OSU Mentor, Jo Ann Bartsch, will demonstrate how to take a soil sample from our plots. It’s been a couple of years since anyone has had their soil tested. If you’ve been adding compost (or other organic material) and your plants are doing well, you probably don’t have to worry about the fertility of your soil. If your plants are spindly or your harvest is just not up to par, maybe you want to know what’s going on so it can be fixed. The soil testing laboratory recommended by OSU is the University of Massachusetts laboratory and they charge $15 for their routine analysis. Jo Ann will explain the options, how to get the sample to the lab, as well as suggest alternate labs that can do the testing.
Finally, there is a chance that we may have a few plots still available for those plot holders wishing to add a plot (no more than two per plot holder). More information will be forthcoming on that subject at the meeting.
See you on April 1st at 12:30pm.
